Mohalla Clinics: Key Concept and Design

The concept of Mohalla Clinics has its partial origin in the concept of mobile medical units. (Lahariya C.;2017) The objective of the mobile vans is to take healthcare to the doorstep of populations, particularly in vulnerable and under-served areas. However the government felt that given the huge demand for healthcare services in Delhi, there was need for a more sustainable solution, where services are based in the community, people know where to go for services, and there is component of assurance of availability of providers, medicines and service package, with sufficient community linkage and engagement. And thus the concept of Mohalla Clinics came into existence. The first mohalla clinic of Delhi was inaugurated on 19 July 2015 in Peeragarhi area of West Delhi with a plan to launch 1000 such clinics across Delhi.
